First details emerge about Microsoft’s Surface Pro 5

These days lots of rumors surrounding around Microsoft’s Book 2 plans, but very little has emerged about the surface pro 5.

Shedding some light over the Surface Pro 5, Paul Thurrott revealed that it will not change the proprietary Surface power connector, and the Microsoft’s next laptop/tablet hybrid will switch to Intel’s latest Kaby Lake processors.

Moreover, thurrott claims that there’s nothing dramatic” about the Surface Pro 5, which could mean the device is simply a refreshed design with upgraded components.

Retaining the Surface power connector doesn’t necessarily mean that Microsoft won’t opt to switch its DisplayPort on the Surface Pro 5 to a USB-C connection. Microsoft previously committed to ensuring that Surface Pro 3 power adapters, docking stations, and Type Covers would be compatible with the Surface Pro 4, so it’s not surprising to hear the company is likely keeping its Surface power connector. A lack of USB-C at all would be a surprising omission given that the majority of Windows PC makers are moving to the new port on high-end laptops.

Thurrott provides no other details on the Surface Pro 5, but we might not have long to wait until an official announcement is due. Microsoft is still expected to hold a special Surface hardware event in the coming weeks. The software giant still hasn’t officially announced its plans, but ZDNet previously reported the Surface Book 2 won’t appear at the event.
